Waterloo Man Wins $80,000 Playing Nebraska Pick 5

Darrell Starks

Darrell Starks of Waterloo won $80,000 playing Nebraska Pick 5 from the Nebraska Lottery.

Starks purchased his winning ticket from Family Fare #811 at 1221 S 203rd Street in Omaha. Starks’ ticket contained two quick pick plays for the November 16 drawing, one of which had the winning combination 02, 06, 09, 10 and 33.

Starks said he’d won $450 after hitting four numbers on Pick five about six or seven times before. While checking the morning paper on Tuesday, he saw that he’d matched all five, but he stayed calm.

“I didn’t get real excited,” he said.

Starks is planning to pay off his truck with his winnings.

Nebraska Pick 5 is Nebraska’s unique Lottery game: all the proceeds from Nebraska Pick 5 stay in Nebraska, and all the winning tickets are sold in Nebraska at Nebraska Lottery Lotto game retailers. The odds of winning the Nebraska Pick 5 jackpot, which starts at $50,000 and grows by $4,000 each drawing that is not won, are 1 in 501,942 while the overall odds of winning a prize in the game, which has drawings seven nights a week, are 1 in 8.
