Powerball® Adding Monday Drawings in August

Nebraska Powerball logoThe Powerball Product Group, a collective group of 38 lotteries, will increase the number of Powerball drawings from two to three nights a week beginning in August 2021. A new Monday drawing will be added to the lineup of Powerball drawings currently held on Wednesday and Saturday nights. The first Monday drawing will be held on August 23, 2021 at 9:59 p.m. CT.

“We value our players and by increasing the number of drawings, we expect to see larger, faster-growing jackpots – with more jackpot wins,” said May Scheve Reardon, Powerball Product Group Chair and Missouri Lottery Executive Director. “While the Grand Prize is always a life-changing amount, players have let us know their excitement of playing the game is focused on larger jackpots."

The Powerball Product Group anticipates the additional drawing will result in an increase in the number of cash prizes and jackpots awarded on an annual basis. Ticket sales from a third weekly drawing will also contribute to funding vital public programs and services in each jurisdiction where the Powerball game is sold. Since its first drawing in 1992, Powerball has raised $25 billion for good causes supported by state lotteries.

“Powerball is Nebraska’s favorite Lotto game. Nebraska Lottery players have been playing Powerball and winning prizes since July of 1994,” said Brian Rockey, Nebraska Lottery director. “Ten Powerball jackpots have been won in Nebraska, and we look forward to more winners in the future along with increased proceeds for good causes.”

The additional drawing on Monday will not change the Powerball game odds or set cash prizes. Players will continue to choose five numbers from 1 to 69 and one Powerball number from 1 to 26. The Power Play® feature will also be available for an additional $1 per play to multiply non-jackpot prizes.

To prepare for Monday drawings, starting on June 2 the amount of drawings that can be purchased in advance on a Nebraska Powerball ticket will be temporarily reduced. The maximum number of drawings that can be purchased on a multi-draw ticket decreases by one after each successive drawing. Beginning Sunday, August 22, Nebraska Lottery players will again be able to purchase tickets for up to 12 weeks of drawings (36 draws). Complete information on the multi-draw phase out is available at nelottery.com.

Powerball tickets are $2 per play. Tickets are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Nebraska Lottery added Powerball as its first Lotto game on July 21, 1994. Nebraska Powerball players have claimed 10 jackpot prizes, including a record $365 million jackpot shared by eight Lincoln co-workers on Feb. 18, 2006.
