York, Fairmont Women Win $50,000 Playing Powerball
Jan McCoy of Fairmont and Jessica Osterloo of York won $50,000 playing Nebraska Powerball.
Both women work at Black Bart’s Shell, 3711 S Lincoln Ave. in York, where they purchased a multi-draw ticket together. The 10-draw ticket they purchased was printed in error for another player. With time running out before the drawing and no other players willing to buy the “mistake ticket,” the women decided to purchase the ticket themselves.
The winning ticket contained four of the five winning white ball numbers (12, 36, 38, 54, 61) and the Powerball number (22) for the Wednesday, Dec. 30 drawing for $50,000.
While claiming the prize on Jan. 4, Osterloo told Nebraska Lottery officials that she checks the Nebraska Lottery terminal every morning when she arrives at work. On Thursday morning, the terminal notified her that Black Bart’s had sold a winner. Both women said they were slow to believe it could be their ticket.
“You don’t really think it could be your ticket, but you check it just in case,” Osterloo said.
“There was a bit of celebration, but we tried to keep it civil,” said McCoy.
The odds of winning $50,000 playing Powerball are 1 in 11,688,053.52, while the overall odds of winning any prize are 1 in 24.9. Twenty-one Nebraska Lottery players have won the $50,000 prize to date.
